Department 22 – Section 3 – Woodsman’s Contest

                                                 Friday, August 25th, at 9:00 AM
                                                         Main Arena

        Pre-registration required by July 25, 2017
        $5.00 entry fee per class.

                                                 Rules and Regulations

         1.  This event will be following the New York State Lumberjack Association Rules. Please contact the secretary's office for a copy of the rules.
          2.  Only participants will be allowed in the arena.  No unauthorized people will be allowed in the arena.
          3.  ALL CLASSES MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED.  NOTE: Any changes must be brought to the arena registration table between 8:00 AM
             and 8:30 AM the day of the show or original entry will be enforced.
          4.  PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE SAFETY EQUIPMENT.  Participation is at contestant’s own risk.
         5.  Any team or single participant will be disqualified for any unsportsman-like conduct.
         6.  Chain saw eligibility is on contestant’s honor.  A saw in question may be disqualified upon a unanimous decision by remaining
             contestants prior to the heat.  Judge’s decision is final.
         7.  For buck competition, a six inch area will be marked for cuts.
         8.  For two-man classes, both names must be listed.  A check for the full premium will be made for each contestant.
         9.  Two minutes maximum will be given for each contestant to appear for their class.  No exceptions.  MANDATORY MEETING AT
             8:30 AM IN THE ARENA.  Contest will begin at 9:00 AM.

        Two person events will be paid full premiums to each contestants - classes 6 & 7.
        Please specify on entry form if you are sharing equipment.
                                           Individual Events Information
        AXE THROW: Numbers will be assigned.  Contestants will be placed in one of two groups.  Any style of axe may be used.  Contestants
        will have one practice throw then three throws to form a combined total.  If any portion of the axe breaks a plane, highest score will be
        given.  Contestants will be throwing from 20 feet.  Stepping over marked line will result in disqualification of that throw.  Placement will
        be determined after all contestants have thrown and tie-breakers have been determined.  Tie breaker will be one throw.

        MODIFIED CHAIN SAWS – SAFETY EQUIPMENT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: When contestants are ready, saws will be started.  A two
        minute maximum limit is given to start and warm up saw.  If contestant cannot start saw, contestant will drop out and compete in the last
        heat.  If saw cannot be started a second time in the allowed time, the contestant will be disqualified.  Contestant will start with both hands
        on top of the wood and saw on the ground, NOT RUNNING.  Official will flag the start. Three cuts are required, two down and one up.
        Time will start when hands touch the saw.  Time will stop when the last block hits the ground.  Chain saws will be shut off immediately
        after completion of cuts.

        BOW SAW: No requirements, just need a saw.

        TWO PERSON CROSS CUT // J&J CROSS CUT: No requirements on type of saw used.  Contestants will start standing ready for first cut.
        Official will flag start.  Two cuts are required.  Time will stop when last block hits the ground.

        HORIZONTAL BLOCK CHOP: Chopping blocks will be numbered and assigned.  Contestants start standing on chopping block.  Axe must
        remain on wood until count of one.  Official will flag start of contest.  Time starts when axe hits the wood.   Contestants will chop until
        two separated pieces remain.  Time will stop when block is completely separated.
